ViaGoGo advert banned for false Taylor Swift implications

Two Viagogo advertisements have been banned for suggesting that tickets bought through their platform could grant access to events like Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, a misleading implication, according to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The adverts, viewed on nme.com in June and July, promoted various gigs at Hyde Park and offered guidance for securing tickets to Swift's tour. Both included links to Viagogo's site for purchasing tickets, seemingly implying availability for the listed events.

FanFair Alliance raised concerns, asserting that the resale of tickets for these events was prohibited on secondary platforms like Viagogo. Notably, Swift's tour was designated a "lead booker event," mandating ticket holders to attend with the purchaser.

Viagogo defended itself, arguing the ads only indicated ticket availability on their platform and claimed minimal incidents of denied entry. However, ASA found the ads misleading as they omitted critical information about venues' refusal of resale tickets, ordering Viagogo to ensure future ads provide accurate details on entry restrictions for tickets purchased through secondary sites.
