Authorities are appealing for information following the discovery of a deceased peregrine falcon ensnared in an illegal trap near a village on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
The protected bird, found close to a public path on the fringe of woodland near Balerno, sparked concerns after being detected in a baited pole trap, confirmed by wildlife crime officer Detective Constable Daniel Crilley.
"Peregrine falcons are safeguarded under the Wildlife and Countryside Act," stated Crilley. Forensic assessments are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, marking an ongoing investigation.
Police are urging individuals with any information or those who witnessed suspicious activities in the vicinity to come forward.
Those able to assist the investigation are encouraged to contact authorities via 101, quoting incident number 1376 of Friday, November 24.
