The police, fire, and ambulance crews have been called to The Old Medical school following the discovery of a suspicious package.

Police officers arrived on Teviot Road just before lunchtime today (Wednesday 9th August) and put a cordon in place, which shut parts of the street.

Police Scotland said: “We were called around 11.40 am on Wednesday, 9 August, to a report of a suspect package in the Teviot Place area of Edinburgh. Emergency services attended and it was established there was no danger to the public. The package has been recovered and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances."

The building is close to McEwan Hall, one of the venues for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue said: “We were called to assist emergency service partners at an incident on Teviot Place, Edinburgh at 11.51am on Wednesday, 9 August. “Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and a specialist resource vehicle to the incident."

The fire service has since left the scene after there was no longer a danger to the public.
