Edinburgh's Hogmanay Events Cancelled Amid Extreme Weather Concerns

Edinburgh’s iconic Hogmanay celebrations have been called off due to severe weather conditions, organisers announced.

High winds and adverse forecasts forced the cancellation of all events scheduled for December 30 and Hogmanay itself, including a headline concert by rock band Texas in Princes Street Gardens.

The city’s world-famous street party and fireworks display have also been scrapped over public safety concerns, following yellow weather warnings for wind and rain issued by the Met Office for Tuesday.

Wind speeds earlier in the week had already caused the cancellation of the traditional Torchlight Procession, which usually marks the start of Hogmanay festivities.

A spokesperson for Unique Assembly, the festival’s organizers, explained:
“We have unfortunately been unable to continue with preparations and necessary set-up for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay outdoor events due to extreme weather and forecast conditions.

“Therefore, for safety reasons, we, along with our event partners, have taken the difficult decision to cancel all outdoor events.

“We know this will be hugely disappointing to those planning to celebrate Hogmanay in Edinburgh, particularly as many people travel from across the globe to join us at the Home of Hogmanay.”

This marks a significant blow for the city, which has long been a global destination for New Year’s Eve revelers.
