A man has been sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison for the horrifying murder of his girlfriend, described by the judge as "beyond sadistic."
Christopher McGowan, 28, was found guilty of the brutal killing of Claire Inglis, a young mother, whose body was discovered in her Stirling home in November 2021, bearing no fewer than 76 separate injuries.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard the trial last month, resulting in McGowan's conviction.
Judge Michael O'Grady handed down a life sentence, with a minimum term of 23 years behind bars when sentencing McGowan at the High Court in Edinburgh today.
It was revealed that McGowan was on bail at the time of the murder.
In a chilling sentencing statement published online, Judge O'Grady conveyed the sheer brutality and sadistic nature of Inglis's death.
He stated, "To describe what you did as sadistic falls woefully short of the mark. It was beyond sadistic."
