The new Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has hit one billion dollars at the box office after just 17 days in cinemas.
The feminist fuelled movie has been renamed "Barbillion" by Warner Brothers Studios after its massive success in cinemas worldwide.
Ticket sales were at $1.03 billion, making director Greta Gerwig the first woman to reach one billion as a solo director.
The President of US president of domestic distribution has championed the director saying: "No one but Greta Gerwig could have brought this cross-generational icon and her world to life in such a funny emotional and entertaining story..."
The film focuses on the life of the iconic fashion doll Barbie, who goes on a journey of self-discovery and travels to the real world searching for answers.
One reason the Barbie film has taken the box office by storm is the clever advertising used to anticipate the film's arrival in cinemas including the Barbie Malibu Dreamhouse available on Airbnb and the pink sparkly layout of Google when searching Barbie.
Sales of the children's doll Barbie have also skyrocketed according to Shopify with sales up 56% with some Barbie-related toys selling out completely.
Social media has jumped on the pink bandwagon by creating Barbie selfie generators and dating app Bumble has Barbie and Ken themed compliments which users can sell to each other.
The film's cinema drop caused an online frenzy when it was announced that Oppenheimer was also going to hit cinemas on the same day starting the Twitter thread #Barbenheimer.
Barbie fans also took to Twitter to show their congratulations to Gerwig and her live-action Barbie film hitting the one billion mark.
