The price of food cupboard staples like eggs, milk, and sunflower oil have begun to fall, despite supermarket shopping bills remaining high.
A research firm has revealed that shoppers paid on average £1.50 for four pints of milk in July, down from £1.69 just a few months earlier.
Meanwhile, those who are re-stocking their sunflower oil will notice that on average they are spending 22 pence less than they would have on the same item in the spring.
Fraser McAvitt, from Kantar Research, explained that many people are still looking to find ways to make their shopping cheaper such as using supermarkets like Iceland, Aldi, and Lidl.
Shoppers are also moving to own-brand labels more and more, over the more expensive big brand labels with almost 10% growth in the purchase of own-brand items each year.
But branded items continue to grow in price and consumer organisiton 'WHICH?' tracked the prices of a number of items in supermarkets including snacks and cakes.
They found that a six-pack of Mr Kipling slices at Tesco was the branded product that rose the most in price, starting at £1.16 in 2022 to £2.66 by July this year.
