Pothole breakdowns hit 5 year high

It's thought an unseasonably wet July caused the number of pothole-related breakdowns to jump by nearly a fifth.

The AA received 50,079 callouts to vehicles stranded due to faults caused by potholes in the last 4 weeks.

It's up on 9,000 calls from that month in the previous year

Potholes can cause damaged shock absorbers, broken suspension springs, and distorted wheels.

Met Office figures show that last month was the UK’s sixth wettest July on record.

This would have made potholes harder to spot for drivers and slowed down repair work according to industry experts.
