Barbie, Saltburn and Killers of The Flower Moon all miss out on Baftas

Barbie, "Killers Of The Flower Moon," and "Saltburn" all left the BAFTAs empty-handed, despite their notable presence in the nominations.

Greta Gerwig's film, delving into the existential crisis of the iconic Mattel doll, boasted the highest box office earnings of 2023 and received multiple award nominations.

However, it failed to secure a win in any category. Margot Robbie, starring as Barbie, lost the Best Actress award to Emma Stone for "Poor Things," while Gerwig's screenplay was bested by the courtroom drama "Anatomy Of A Fall".

Additionally, Ryan Gosling's portrayal of Ken was surpassed by Robert Downey Jr for "Oppenheimer" in the Supporting Actor category.

Notably, Gerwig was absent from the directing nominees list.

Martin Scorsese's sprawling western crime saga, "Killers Of The Flower Moon," also went home empty-handed despite nominations for Best Film and Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro, along with recognition in several technical categories.

Similarly, "Saltburn," despite its viral popularity, failed to clinch any BAFTA awards.

The film follows a student's entanglement with a wealthy classmate during a summer at his grand estate, earning nods for Outstanding British Film, as well as for its leading actors Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike, supporting actor Jacob Elordi, and its score.

However, "Saltburn" did receive a moment of recognition during the ceremony, notably featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor's performance of "Murder On The Dancefloor."

The disco hit, originally released 22 years prior, enjoyed renewed popularity after its memorable inclusion in the film's finale. Ellis-Bextor, accompanied by a troupe of sequin-clad dancers, delivered a captivating rendition on stage, further highlighting the film's cultural impact despite its lack of awards success.
