Yousaf says no more money for striking school staff

Scotland's striking school staff face an uncertain future as First Minister Humza Yousaf announced there will be no further funding for an improved pay offer.

The revelation comes in the middle of a new wave of strike action initiated by Unison, the only union to reject the most recent offer for non-teaching staff.

Scheduled for November 1, fresh walkouts are set to impact four council areas.

Unison has also extended its industrial action, announcing strikes in Edinburgh, and Fife as well as other areas of Scotland on November 8.

Yousaf defended the government's stance, stating that there is no more money available for local authorities to enhance staff wages.

He explained, "We have significant additional funding to secure a robust pay deal for our local government workers, which is why two out of three trade unions have accepted the offer."

Unite and the GMB had initially planned strikes but suspended their action after their members accepted the deal, which guarantees minimum wage increases.

However, Unison members voted overwhelmingly to reject it, leaving the situation unresolved and school staff's demands unmet.
