Over 120 teachers have enrolled in a specialised training course aimed at integrating the Scots language into their classrooms.

The innovative initiative, the first of its kind, is spearheaded by the Open University and receives financial backing from the Scottish Government.

Educators participating in this groundbreaking program hail from diverse regions across Scotland and bring expertise in various subjects to the table.

The inclusive nature of the current cohort underscores the broad reach and impact of the initiative.

The official launch of the training course is scheduled for Tuesday at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, where Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth will officially announce the programme to the press.

Ms. Gilruth has expressed her anticipation, emphasising the significance of the course in contributing to the preservation and integration of the Scots language within the Scottish education system.

Describing the training as an "important step" forward, Ms. Gilruth underscores the course's pivotal role in embedding and safeguarding the Scots language.

The move aligns with broader efforts to celebrate linguistic diversity and heritage within the educational landscape, reflecting a commitment to fostering a rich and inclusive learning environment for students across Scotland.
