Former First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, made a powerful show of solidarity with striking school staff as they protested over pay disputes.
On Thursday, Ms. Sturgeon joined a picket line of members from Unison outside the Royal Mile Primary School in Edinburgh, standing alongside striking staff.
This unexpected act of support occurred when Ms. Sturgeon was walking down the street and was beckoned over by the striking staff, who were keen to have her backing in their cause.
Unison, the union representing the striking workers, reported that Ms. Sturgeon not only joined the picket line but also engaged in conversations with the staff.
Sharron Macaulay, one of the school workers participating in the strike, captured the moment with a photograph of Ms. Sturgeon alongside the staff members.
Sharron remarked on the encounter, saying, "It was great to see Nicola this morning, she was very friendly. I hope she didn't feel ambushed, as we shouted her over from the other side of the street."
