Nicholas Rossi's Court Appearance in Utah Raises Questions Amid Identity Dispute

Nicholas Rossi, who claims to be Irish orphan Arthur Knight, made his first court appearance in the US via video link from Utah County Jail after being extradited from Scotland.

Charged with the 2008 rape of a woman in Orem, Utah, Rossi, appearing in a blue jumpsuit and an oxygen mask, vehemently denied his identity.

US authorities allege Rossi faked his death in 2020 after announcing a terminal illness, leading to his identification in a Glasgow hospital in 2021.

Despite months of legal proceedings in Edinburgh, Rossi's extradition was approved in June 2023.

In the recent Utah court session, Rossi insisted on being Arthur Knight Brown and objected to the state attorney's statements, claiming hearsay.

Rossi's tangled web of deceit includes alleged conversion to Judaism during detention in HMP Edinburgh.

Sheriff Norman McFadyen described him as "dishonest and deceitful." The court is set to reconvene on January 26 for further proceedings.
