Edinburgh branch of Wilko at risk

The branch at Fort Kinnaird has been revealed to be one of the hundreds of branches at risk as the firm intends to file for administration.

The homeware chain said it had filed a "notice of intention" to appoint administrators after they had failed to gather enough funds from emergency investors.

The company going into administration would put 400 stores across the UK at risk of closure, as well as 12,000 jobs in jeopardy.

Andy Prendergast, national secretary at the GMB union, told BBC News: "This is extremely concerning but we remain hopeful that a buyer can be found.

"Wilko's staff deserve reassurance that their jobs are safe. We hope this is the number one priority going forward."

The company believes they have significant interest from investors or buyers, but none that would be able to offer the sort of sum needed, in the required timescale.

Where are Wilko's stores in Scotland?

  • Ayr
  • Castle Douglas
  • Clydebank
  • Edinburgh
  • Falkirk
  • Greenock
  • Hamilton
  • Irvine
  • Livingston
  • Motherwell
