Donald Trump is sworn in as the 47th U.S. President

This marks Trump’s return to the White House four years after his departure.

Donald Trump has officially taken the oath of office, becoming the 47th president of the United States.

The inauguration ceremony, held in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, was moved indoors due to chilly weather conditions.

This marks Trump’s return to the White House four years after his departure, following a defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

He firstly used the high-profile platform to launch a cutting critique of his predecessor, former Democratic President Joe Biden.

This inauguration represents Trump’s second term, having previously occupied the Oval Office from 2017 to 2021.

During his absence from the presidency, Trump became notable for being the first U.S. president to face criminal charges and a felony conviction.

In May, a jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business documents related to hush-money payments made during the 2016 election cycle—a charge Trump has consistently denied, characterising the investigations as political “witch hunts” orchestrated by Democrats.

In his address, Trump drew parallels between the legal challenges he faced, and an assassination attempt he survived in July while campaigning in Pennsylvania.

He emphasised that these events would not deter him as he laid out his priorities for his new administration.

Trump’s speech outlined several key agenda items. He declared an immediate emergency concerning the southern border with Mexico, underscoring his longstanding commitment to immigration reform.

Additionally, he hinted at his intention to roll back protections afforded to transgender and nonbinary individuals—echoing promises made throughout his recent campaign.
