Community hub, The Pitt Reopens on Granton Promenade

The Pitt has officially reopened on the Granton Promenade, attracting over 2,000 visitors during its inaugural weekend.

As Edinburgh’s latest community, enterprise, and social hub, The Pitt boasts more than double the space of its former location on Pitt Street.

The venue features a permanent global street food market, various retail units, a spacious heated indoor seating plaza, family and community areas, two permanent saunas from Soul Water Sauna, and a 700-capacity events space—all set against the stunning backdrop of the Firth of Forth.

Hal Prescott, Chief Executive of the Granton Project, which manages The Pitt, said, “We’re absolutely delighted to be open, and despite the storm attempting to throw a spanner in the works we’ve had thousands of people through the doors with initial feedback being fantastic.

But this is very much the beginning of the journey for us, The Pitt isn’t a static space it will continue evolve with the community we’re part of and the community we build. We have so much more to come in the new year, so watch this space.”

Founded in 2015 by Hal Prescott and Scott Kirkham, The Pitt was one of Scotland’s pioneering year-round street food markets, originating on Pitt Street in Leith.

It operated until October 2022, when it closed for redevelopment and in 2023, reopened as a Not-for-Profit Community Interest Company.

Located on West Shore Road along the Granton Promenade, The Pitt sits within the North Edinburgh regeneration development.

It occupies a significantly larger footprint and has a bold vision to serve as a vibrant social, cultural, and grassroots space where innovative ideas can flourish in a welcoming, accessible community setting.

The venue also features two saunas from Soul Water Sauna, a weekly local produce market hosted by Granton Community Garden, family-friendly spaces, a co-working area, and some of the best views of Edinburgh overlooking the Firth of Forth.
