SAG Awards 2025

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards saw Conclave emerge as the standout winner on Sunday, intensifying the competition for the Oscars just a week away.

The ceremony was hosted by Kristen Bell, known for her role in Nobody Wants This, who began the event by honouring Los Angeles firefighters present in the audience for their heroic efforts during the city's recent devastating wildfires.

Conclave gained the night's top honour for best ensemble cast, building on its recent success after winning best film at the BAFTAs last week.

Isabella Rossellini from the cast of Conclave took a moment to wish Pope Francis a speedy recovery following his pneumonia diagnosis.

Among the notable winners were Demi Moore and Timothée Chalamet, both now have enhanced prospects heading into the Academy Awards.

The SAG Awards are unique as winners are selected by fellow actors, making the night a celebration of the acting community.

Despite Conclave winning only the top prize, its recognition places it in a favourable position ahead of the Oscars. This year's best picture race has been particularly dynamic, with The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez winning at the Golden Globes, followed by Conclave at the BAFTAs and now the SAG Awards, while Anora has garnered accolades from various industry guilds including producers, writers, and directors.

Demi Moore's victory for her role in body horror film The Substance adds a new layer of intrigue to the tight best actress category, which is largely viewed as a contest between her and the rising star Mikey Madison, who recently took home a BAFTA.

Timothée Chalamet surprised audiences with a win for best actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, triumphing over Adrien Brody, who had been dominating the category throughout the awards season.

Kieran Culkin claimed the best supporting actor award, while Zoe Saldaña continued her string of successes in the supporting actress category for her performance in the Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez.

Finally, Jane Fonda was honoured with this year's lifetime achievement award, the highest accolade from the acting union, and delivered a passionate speech highlighting the significance of the current political climate.
