2024 MTV VMAs Excitement: Taylor Swift Dominates with Record Wins, Stars Shine on the Red Carpet

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, marking an exhilarating celebration of an outstanding year in music.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, marking an exhilarating celebration of an outstanding year in music. As one of the most highly anticipated events on the music calendar, it featured unforgettable moments, including Megan Thee Stallion channelling Britney Spears with her iconic "Slave 4 U" ensemble, and Taylor Swift sweetly acknowledging her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

Swift made history by winning an impressive seven awards, including Video of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Artist of the Year, Best Direction, and Best Editing, solidifying her status as the most awarded artist in VMA history. Her tour companion, Sabrina Carpenter, also made an impression with performances of her top three hits—"Taste," "Please Please Please," and "Espresso"—the latter of which earned her the Song of the Year award, marking her first win of the moon person trophy.

Other notable winners included Chappell Roan, who was honoured as Best New Artist, SEVENTEEN, awarded Best Group, and Benson Boone, recognized as Best Alternative Artist. Katy Perry received the prestigious Video Vanguard Award from her husband, actor Orlando Bloom. She shared her gratitude at winning the award, “I just want to say with my whole heart: Do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art. Turn off social media, safeguard your mental health.”

The audience was treated to a spectacular medley of Perry's classic hits, including "I Kissed a Girl," "Dark Horse," and "Firework," alongside her recent single "Lifetimes," all delivered with her signature sparkle and whimsical choreography.

The atmosphere at UBS Arena in New York was electric, and both winners and nominees hopefully left inspired to create new music, and the afterparty was filled with plenty of juicy celebrity gossip to anticipate for next year’s award show.
