Last night Police received reports of someone being stuck in the sea, nearby Helesburgh Pier, at around 5.15pm. Police rushed to the scene, but soon after their arrival the body of a 25-year-old was seen being recovered from the water.

The woman’s family have been informed of the incident, but the area around Helesburgh Pier is under police investigation. Police officers are also continuing with injuries, to gather more clarity about the circumstances of the tragedy. Some areas of the Argyll and Bute Town are taped off.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for assault, but not directly for the death of the young woman, police say.
