Damien McCann, 35, who raped a schoolgirl while his wife filmed the horrific abuse has been jailed for 10 and a half years.
McCann admitted sexually assaulting his victim, who was ten-years-old when the abuse began, several times between May 2016 and January 2019 at different houses in Midlothian.
Police previously raided the couples home, where a mobile phone and laptop were seized and searched. Detectives went on to find a total of 20 clips of McCann raping the girl, while his wife filmed.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Mary McCann, who took her own life in January 2020, filmed the attacks while verbally encouraging him.
A judge told McCann during sentencing on Wednesday: “Child rape is always an extremely serious offence and here I consider there are factors which rendered your conduct even worse.”
“It is difficult to envisage the degree of damage you have caused to your victim.”
McCann further pled guilty to assaulting a six-month-old baby girl at a house in Edinburgh between December 2018 and January 2019 and to possessing videos and images of extreme pornography, including bestiality.
As well as being sentenced to 10 and a half years, the judge also ordered that he be kept under supervision for a further three year period and warned that if he breached licence conditions during it he can be recalled to prison.
He has now been assessed as presenting a high risk of sexual re-offending and been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for an indefinite period.
Following the case, Detective Inspector Ally Sellar, senior investigating officer, said: “The victim has had a horrendous start to her young life and officers remained determined to make sure that McCann was held to account for his horrific crimes.”
“I would urge anyone with any concerns about a child at risk of abuse, or a potential victim, to contact police immediately.”
