Man arrested over suspicious package found at Edinburgh palace

Police were called at about 20:50pm on Tuesday after a report of a suspicious item was found in the grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh.

The bomb disposal team were called to the scene and made the item safe.

A force spokesman said: “A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

“There was no threat to the public and inquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances.”

Officers were seen searching the grounds on Wednesday morning, with Police Scotland vehicles stationed at entrances to the palace.
