Since series six of Jed Mercurio’s hit police drama Line of Duty returned to our screens earlier this month, fans of the show have been conducting mass investigations into the programme, coming up with some pretty wild theories in the process!
If you cast your minds back to series one which aired way back in 2012, you’ll remember Tony as being the bent copper who was leading serious crime unit TO-20, whilst having an affair with Jackie Laverty.
After being found out by AC-12 officers Fleming and Arnott, Tony Gates killed himself in the line of duty, making it look like a tragic accident so his family still received his pension.
HOWEVER, after connections to Jackie Laverty have already arisen in the first two episodes of series six, viewers are now putting together the pieces with Chloe and Tony, with many thinking she is one of his daughters.
In series one viewers were introduced to Tony’s wife Jools and two children, Chloe and Natalie, who later received £107,000 after his death and his full pension.
With some die-hard Line of Duty fans realising this, theories have been wild on social media….
Of course, nothing has been confirmed just yet, and to be honest, if you’ve been a fan of the show throughout, you’ll know that it’s incredibly hard to guess the mind of creator Jed Mercurio, with many twists and turns throughout.
You can watch all previous episodes of Line of Duty on the BBC iPlayer, with series six airing every Sunday night at 9pm.
